hi,

I am kind of shocked to see the proliferation of uploads which basically advertise a youtube channel.

Now, Freesound is free, youtube isn't. Youtube the opposite. Youtube is about monetizing.

The problem is not just that. The problem is that the more uploads with the youtube channel ads (kind invitation to "check out my youtube channel"), the more hits on that user's youtube page.. and he will upload more and even more...

This quickly leads to (has lead already) a deluge of low quality uploads.
It is flooding...
It kills the original content, and possible access to it.
It kills this entire site...

Solution?

Perhaps a "hide this user" or "snooze this user for 30 / 90 days" option could be a good start!
Cause people could use the Freesound site without the degradation of quality (because what they don't want, will not be there in the search matches list)...

The next step could be to make a statistic visible at a user's sounds "hidden by 1312 users"...

Greetings,

You can search with " -youtube " and it will remove posts with youtube links in their description it seems.

In the recent uploads, one user does indeed promote their youtube heavily, but to be fair the loop is indeed WAV quality, their youtube is about sounds and loops, and it's shared in not even attribution none commercial but public domain. Fair game imo?
I haven't seen some really malicious and unrelated posting.

It's a public forum and public posts, id say feel free to share/callout whatever post/user you find problematic. And the mods and hopefully community can have a look at it. But a mod (which I'm not) should approve this shot before hand. x')
