I saw a movie today called "The Brave One." (Warner Bro., 2007)
Jodie Foster plays a role of a radio show host, and she uses a Sound Devices recorder.
She does some field-recordings in New York City in the film. The recorder appears wonderfully attractive.
Did anyone see it?
The movie itself is based on a depressive story, but it's worth seeing at least once, especially for Freesounders.

Maybe the freakiest reason to watch a movie, but followed your suggestion. To me the film was just another revenge story (reminded me of Charles Bronson, Steven Seagal, that stuff, but less funny). To me make things worst the copy was so dark I hardly could see the machine, ha ha.

Yeah, I think so, too. You can see a clear close-up of the recorder in the movie. It has two level-meter rows.

What shocks me about this series of recorders is the tag price in Europe: I could fly to NY, buy the thing, spend a couple days... and still save money!

Sound Devices don't allow their gear to be shipped from US sellers OS so as not to upset the international dealers who are ripping people off (relatively speaking). If you have a friend in the US (not hard to find you can buy from somewhere like B&H Photo Video and have it shipped within the USA then they can export it privately. That's what I did to get my MixPre.
That said, their digital recorders are still very expensive, but they are almost perfect, the mic pres are second to none and the units will last you a lifetime. I took the cheaper approach. Bought a MixPre (the mic preamps basically) and connect to a R-09. Not as elegant, but it sounds the same for about $USD 1000 all up.

If I am using a Blimp then the NT4 fits inside and works well. If I am set up somewhere less mobile and with time/space a pair of AT3032s is a great option. I recently got these mics and am very impressed.

The biggest difference between R-09 and MR-1 is sound. Yes.
The sound taken by R-09 is 'good sound.'
The one by MR-1 is 'sound itself.'
You can recognize a picture which is printed on the comb side. In the same way can you do it with a picture on paper. Both are pictures, but the one on the comb has void between blades.
MR-1000 has double the density as MR-1. Just amazing.
Korg MR recorders have big headroom over the peak, so hardly get the sound distorted if signal breaks the ceiling. It's very much for professional. The only fault of MR-1000 is batteries. (As many as 8 AA batts.)
Ya, if I got the MR-1000, I would probably buy or built a better battery pack for it. Most times I am somewhere with AC nearby, as this would compliment my live venue recordings more than anything, though I guess if it sounds as good as you say I would be tempted to go out in the field with it as well.
If you want to dig back aways, you would also enjoy Blow Out.(1981)
John Travolta and Nancy Allen. Of course the recorder would be a Nagra,
and the 1/4 inch edit deck would be an Ampex 350.

Sorry to revive this thread, I haven't been here for a while.
I completely disagree with you blowing off The Brave One as just another revenge story....and comparing her to Steven Segal and Charles Bronson makes no sense. Did you watch the movie?
Though there are some obvious flaws in the movie, what I got from watching it was a constant debate within myself. The film forced me to answer questions and I had to look deep to answer them. Amazingly, despite it's obvious twists and turns and ridiculous Hollywood ending, it brought up some existential debate.
And the 722 rocked my world.
Two other movies to watch which have audio (not from necessarily a gear perspective) as THE key and primary plot device:

Pretty cool French movie about a live recording made surreptitiously of a world class opera singer and the dangerous circumstances evolved from the recordings existence.
For a movie from 1981, I will forgive any cheeziness for the sake of the plot
