Hello.

Im a Fan of Athmosperic Roleplay Games and i suggested to bring in some very Basic Sounds into my Campaign.

Did anyone allready put some "BASIC" Sounds together on a CD? If not maybe we can put on a little Project.
Some of the Forumusers who are intrested in Roleplaying Games would like to help me here maybe. wink

My Idea is to put on a Compilation with diffrent Tracks.
Requirments:
There should be almost no Music included just Basic Sounds of diffrent landscapes. The Tracks should be <10Minutes long so that they dont loop to much and Players get the Feelin that it rewinds over and over again. It should Match in a Fantasy RPG! That means no Sounds of Engines, Machines or Future RPG Stuff. Im playing Rolemaster so i thnk u get the Point what i mean wink

Here is what im Searching for and what im Thinking off:

1. Crowed City Street or Tavern @ Day/Night (People Talking very quitly, footsteps on the Street, Horses or other Animals)
2. Forrest Sounds @Day/Night (Birds,Wind in the Trees, maybe Rain. Or @ Night WOlfs Owls or rustling, cicada)
3. Swamp (Frogs, gargling of the Swamp, Moskitos, Birds)
4. Snowlands (WIntersounds, Steps in Snow, Frosty Winds, Animals who live in Snowy Reggions ...)
5. Cave (dripstone sounds, water flowing somewhere, sounds of Insekts or rustling, drafty wind from somewhere ...)

Important thing of all is to keep it BASIC so that its all-purpose. If we got the Basics we can add some Extra Music Tracks for Battle or something else. Maybe we can at Diffrent Types of Waether Conditions or just "overplay it" on the Soundfiles we got. (Should be makeable to have a Citytrack and add some Rain or Thunder)

The Sounds should be run all in the Back and not to loud.

Hope u got what i mean. I Hope u excuse my English, and i hope some people will be find to help me with that.

So i make the Start. Here is one File i got from a Forum User. i asked for it a few Month ago

http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=16481

And here another one from that User. Its plain rain

http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=22037

Thx "aclivity" for that!

Greatest Problems will be to find the Sounds we search for on the Net. ALso getting some without Car Sounds will be diffrent too.

Now i have to loop them somehow and they all have to have the same Sound Level. Convert them into MP3 is the next step.

Anyone got a Good and easy Tool to work with that Soundfiles? Something that is Freeware?

Audacity springs to mind. If you hold shift, the play button turns into a looped playback button so you can preview your loop. It's got some fade and crossfade effects, you might try crossfading the end into a second of the beginning and see if you can get it to loop that way. If you have LAME installed you can even have it encode MP3s for you.

Thx for your Help. Im looping the Rainsoundfile now with the Programm u gave me. It works. But can u gimmie the Link where to download that LAME? SO i can convert the Citysoundfile in MP3?

Edit: thx, i found out how to Convert it bye myself. Thx man!

Now i need some more Soundfiles that would Fit in an FRPG Enviorment Sound Pack.

Question: How can i adjust the SOund Levels so taht Every Sound on that Final CD have the Same Soundlevel?

In audacity, each track/stereo track has a gain (volume) and pan slider, in addition to the envelope editing tool. Watch your level meter at the top when it's playing and tweak the volume of each track accordingly.
Read the Audacity Documentation, The Audacity Tutorials, and the Audacity Wiki if you want to learn how to better use the program. You can ask here if you have questions not answered in those documents.

You can play around with the different filters that come with audacity, make sure you install the audacity VST enabler first (see the site for more info).

Be a little more specific about what you want to do and I'm sure that the old hands around here can give you some tips. smile
