The experience with my samples is that the download rate of .flac files is statistically lower than .wav files. I assume that this is caused that .flac is no standard on windows systems and occasional users don´t want to look for "mystic" tools because they can listen their dowloaded files. Most of the top ten downloads and ratings are .mp3 and .wav - this supports my assumption. It will be no option to move to .wav and wast ressouces to increase my download ratings
Therefore i would like to ask if it is possible to place some support information and download links to the main site to support these user who do not know how to handel .flac.

There is information in the forums, but not everybody uses the forums (and those who do may or may not read any given message thread). I do get downloads of my .flac files, but as can be seen in the first comment on this one (which has had over 100 DLs), there is definitely resistance to downloading them.

If possible, it would be nice if the info page for sounds had a custom message appear for .flac files only -- something like: "Not sure about .flac files? You can use them, click here for details!"

Ah-ha, yes the .flac files. I've just learned from jppi's comment on his sound that sound forge recognises flac, but my question i throw to the floor is:

"Is there a plug-in that lets cubase support flac?"

This is because i use cubase for making my mixes and what, but i don't really want the hassle of converting every file i download.

I repeat: please consider FLAC a ZIP format, but for wave files. Is there a plugin that lets cubase import ZIP files? Nope
It's *really* simple to decompress flac files, c'mon guys stop being so difficult about it, or I'll add Monkeys Audio and AAC as well

Sure you have to do it via command line, but this also means you can "unflac" a whole directory of flac files...

flac *.flac

will convert all files in the current directory

I really do not think that it is complicated to handel flac files at all. But my impression is, that many occasional users do not know them, so the download rate of flac files is significantly lower than other formats. Personally I have absolutly not problem with flac. I really like it , therefore i am using it.

BTW: Is it possible to pipe tar achives through a flac compression to get the audio stuff compressed in this package? Something lik foo.tar.flac instead of foo.tar.gz or so ?

Ah-ha...thankyouofr clearing that up bram...i now have this flac encoder/decoder on my computer...nifty :wink:
