Only 2% of works represented in the concert subscription hail from women composers. The Wiener Festwochen, along with Nuria Schoenberg-Nono as patron, are globalising modernism, making it more female, and launching it into the boundless waters of the now. With the start of the new artistic directorship under Milo Rau, from 2024 ten women composers a year will develop strategies of visibility, forming networks and presenting their pieces, performed by Klangforum Wien. The aim is to have concert and opera houses, as well as musical ensembles, commit to increasing the presence of women composers in their programmes in a significant way.
