XSL • A FREE SOUND COLLECTION & OPEN COLLABORATION

If we would stop and attribute too much to genius, [Emerson] shows us that "what is best written or done by genius in the world, was no one man's work, but came by wide social labor, when a thousand wrought like one, sharing the same impulse."

The XSL is a free sound collection by several artists around the world, offering all sorts of original and rare audio samples.

A total of 324 files including recordings from sound installations, the new instrument Arpasauro inspired by harp and organ, underwater recordings with a custom made hydrophone, field-recordings of wild insects, frogs, rain, thunderstorms, sea waves, planes, machines, samples of ceramics, stones, household percussion, vinyl crackle, a clavichord, a violin, a japanese choir, a vocal of a poem, analog synthesizers, drones, pads, sci-fi soundscapes...

GET INVOLVED IN THE CO-CREATION OF THE ALBUM

Participants are required to create audio works with the sounds in the XSL and encouraged to collaborate in the process. The deadline to submit final works is March 1, 2015. A selection of the submitted works will be presented by Harvestworks (New York), Niu (Barcelona), Netlabelism (Ghent) and Thalamus Lab (Berlin).

Somehow I missed this post when it came out - I think we had some SPAM problems in the forum that week.

Freesounders - please support this, I think it is a really cool idea.

We added in our post the 30 packs we found in Freesound and we proposed for the collaboration.

We are looking for audio works made out of the sounds in the XSL and these 30 packs on Freesound.
You may use other sounds as well. This is just a starting point for creating an album collectively.
We hope more freesounders join this!
