You are not allowed to vote on your piece.
If you submitted an entry, you must vote. - I will not disqualify you if you don't, but it would be very rude not to vote.

Voting (entrants)
For voting you simply list the pieces in the order of your preference.
Your preferred piece gets 10 points. And the others get 5,4,3,2,and 1, respectively.

Voting (non entrants)
Anyone who has been a member of Freesound for longer than 3 months can vote.
Simply list the pieces in order of your preference.
Since non-entrants can vote for all pieces, their points are awarded:
10 for the first choice, and then 6,5,4,3,2, and 1, respectively.

Please place your votes by posting on this thread.
You can make a short comment with your votes explaining your first choice. For more detailed comments please comment on the pieces directly on Soundcloud or use this discussion thread:
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/35371/

VOTING CLOSES 1st OCT 2014, 11 PM GMT.

Remember the winning piece will get played on the online radio The Global Voice!

I want to believe.

10 pts to mon777 : Contains all the classic "techno tricks". Simple. Effective. irresistible... I dont want to vote for this, but I have to wink #ShortWaveRadioTechnoKitsch

& in no particular order smile
Cannonrayj : A daring piece. Great orchestrated.
copyc4t : Dark. Epic.
luckylittleraven : Atmospheric. Like the fragmented morse code message. I guess you know morse code. The rhythm is right. The pitch change of the morse code fools me... The ear wants to follow the initial pitch :-/
Escortmarius : The discrete bass drum guides you thru the short wave jungle.
AlienXXX : I like the rhythm. At 1:26 it changes to "classic" metal rhythm, in my ears.

10- gis_sweden. Totally hypnotic and awesome!
5- copyc4t. Compellingly dark and amazingly put together.
4- mon777. Addictive beats and heaps of fun grin
Then because voting like this is difficult in no particular order
Cannonrayj. So cool it's chilling. Unreal blend of sounds
AlienXXX. Neat acid sounds and pulsing beat from the samples
Escortmarius. Cool minimal vibe with lots of delicious glitchy bleepy details.

Thanks for the dare smile

This was a unique dare, and everyone created a pretty distinct sound!

my voting as follows
-10: luckylittleraven, The composition of this song was everything. the sounds all play well with each other, nothing feels out of place, and it really creates a nice soundscape. the ending is leaves me guessing and very concerned. it stirs up very dark images.

-5: gis_sweden, The track is very ominous and mechanical. kind of unnerving actually, the mix of high and low pitch frequencies is very nice indeed!

-4: Mon777, I was suprised at this one, very different and much more 'mainstream' than dare entries usually run, the cut vocal samples were my favorite part!

-3: copyc4t, the background drone and the vocal samples really did it for meescortmarius, there was a nice loop feeling without seeming repetitive.

-2: escortmarius, there was a nice loop feeling without seeming repetitive.

-1: AlienXXX I really loved the very wet douple clip in the beat structure!

thanks for the dare!!

Copyc4t - 10 points
A really awesome composition

mon777 - 5 points

luckylittleraven - 4 points

escortmarius - 3 points

gis_sweden - 2 points

Cannonrayj - 1 point

I had forgotten how difficult voting is... The more you think about it, there are always parts you like in every single piece.
But then again... I thought not of the individual bits, but of how the pieces felt as a whole. In that regard, for me, Copyc4t really comes out the winner.

I am glad to see that we cannot agree amongst ourselves in terms of voting. That is great: means different pieces appeal to different people. So, in the end, really everybody wins.

Also here a reminder that we are 47h 30min away from the official close of the votes...

I want to believe.

Pfff... voting.. I always hate this part.. all entries are nice in their own way.

10 points for luckylittleraven
5 points for copyc4t
4 points for gis_sweden
3 points for AlienXXX
2 points for Mon777
1 point for Cannonrayj

Its all based on my feelings and emotions that I get listening to the entries, so it seems kinda random... I think Ill keep it that way... smile

Record all the crap you can!! doesnt matter if it sounds like shit.

RESULTS !!!!

Don't know if you all noticed, but I intentionally made the points allocation such that the first (i.e., your favourite) song received much points that the following (i.e., 10 for first preference, 5 for second preference, then 4, and so on...)

The reason I did this was to try to make sure that there would be no ties in first place.
Almost missed my goal as there are only 2 points difference between first and second place!

Also, please note that some of you did not follow exactly the voting rules. Where you did not clearly assign points or did not assign the correct points, I corrected this based on the rules and the order in which you listed the entries.

Here it is, folks !!!

1st place ----> Luckylittleraven with 39 points!

Followed by
copyc4t with 37 points
mon777 and gis_sweden both with 27 points
Cannonrayj with 16 points
AlienXXX with 15 points
Escortmarius with 14 points

Regardless of how many points you got, this was a great dare !

The next dare is already up and running! What are you waiting for?

I want to believe.

Wowee! I feel very lucky. Sorry if it's inappropriate to post here but wanted to say thank you. .. for the dare, it was very cool. All the people who contributed their recordings, wouldn't have been possible without them. All the participants... each entry was unique and inspiring in it's own way.
Thanks everyone who listened and made thoughtful comments. I get a lot of inspiration from freesound, the resources, discussions and ideas that you all share.
For me it's nice to make music that expresses an idea or feeling, and being able to share it is wonderful sooo...
Thank you!!!! grin

Hi all, and congrats to luckylittleraven, what a great piece! As AlienXXX said, the winner will be played on the global internet radio station The Global Voice on my show Everything But the Kitchen Sink. Only I wasn't sure when that was going to be, because just as the voting finished we had to get ready to move house from where I had been living for 18 years, so I had been putting up archives of old shows for some time. Things are settling down, and the show's 5th anniversary is next week, so I hope you'll all tune in to hear the winning piece during the show. It's a bit of a grab-bag eclectic sort of show, with music from any genre the mood strikes me to play, from around the world, and recordings from the 1890s to the present.
So tune in on Wednesday December 3, at 3 UTC, 3 AM in Britain, 4 AM in central Europe, that’s Tuesday night here in the US and Canada at 10 PM eastern, 7 PM Pacific by pointing your browser to
The Global Voice
And if you do happen to miss it Wednesday or the Sunday repeat, you can listen or download from the program gallery, just click here
Again, congratulations, and happy Thanksgiving to all here in the states.

Foxtrot Sky heard on another Global Voice program yesterday. I meant to post about it Saturday, it was a spur of the moment thing. When I heard the topic for our Sunday talk show The Attitude Test, the future of amateur radio, I suggested the track be played during the show. If you'd like to listen or download the program, click here
Also, it looks like the program will be reaired on PCJ Network's shortwave transmitter in Sri Lanka some time around Christmas. Watch this space.
