A t-shirt for the one who wins.

1. download: http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/packsViewSingle.php?id=1563

2. make a song, a soundscape, a collage!

3. upload to ccmixter and tag accordingly ( http://ccmixter.org/freesound )

4. only cutting/pasting, some basic processing (eq, compressor, etc...) is allowed

5. deadline is before the end of 2006, worldwide

6. I'm the only judge tongue

7. only use samples from that pack.

8. not more than 2 entries per person

tell us about it here smile

May this soundmix also contain other samples from freesound or only the package you have posted?

Any restrictions in regard with processing and editing the sounds? (pitch-shifting, reversing, vocoding, compression/expanding, granulating,... etc)

Bram, I baulked when I saw the size of the download, and was told it would take 4 hours to download (at the speed the FS computer was running) and it would eat up half my free hard drive space (slight exaggeration). Browsing the individual samples to choose a few is taking time ...

Oh I do like dares! Is there a closing date for this? Too busy to do one at the moment, especially with all those samples. I suppose it can be done in the future.

I like it!

Hey Bram, sometime in the future, how about a "Rube Goldberg Machine" dare? e.g. http://www.rubegoldberg.com, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6006084025483872237

Funny, freaky and damned addictive. I'm afraid of listening to that too many times though. Good work.

Wow, glad to hear such positive responses. Thanks! Hope it inspires at least.

I'm really interested to hear what everyone else does with this material.

nice work, thanos!

here's mine: http://ccmixter.org/media/files/spt3125/7946

the sounds are structured sort of as if it were an actual live performance piece. sorry if it's a bit long (about 8 minutes) but i just couldn't resist the added challenge of using the entire sample pack smile

Oh wov!

I love both of them.

Both are powerful and surprising, and fun. I kinda got aware that the little sounds between main sounds are quite interesting too, and give to the compositions a special realistic feeling, natural feeling, organic construction, if u know what i mean.

I can't wait to hear more of those grin

I have to say that we are going to send this recordings to the people at Caixaforum, we are probably going to show a video from the mass recording there and we may be able to slide the winner and the rest of the submissions of this thread into the expo.

Caixaforum is pretty important expo place here in Barcelona, one of the big ones. Let people hear what you can do !!!

Godspeed!

Cheers.

Please forgive me if I have misinterpreted your instructions Bram. I read through your initial post only once and rushed into this, not thinking about what you meant by "song".

Now that I have completed my song I'm not sure whether you meant a song composed exclusively of the samples in the pack, or if you meant a song that simply used the samples. In any case, disregard my entry if I misinterpreted you, here's my entry nonetheless.
