I've been trying to upload a sound for a bit, but I can't seem to connect to the FTP server.
Using the FTP applet, I get this output:
Connecting to host ... please wait
USER ******
PWD
Attempting to do anything serverside results in this error message:
Connection terminated. Reconnect?
Attempting to reconnect yields the same results.
I've also tried connecting to ftp://www.freesound.org/ with FireFTP, but it also tells me that it was unable to make a connection.
I've tried running the applet in both Firefox and Internet Explorer (although I assume that probably doesn't make much of a difference), but to no avail.
I'm certain that I'm using the correct login credentials, so what am I doing wrong?

I'm getting the exact same thing.....but I'm not getting a warm & fuzzy
about getting an answer as this thread (unanswered) is a year old already...

Has anything been done about this? Is there an answer?

I recognize this.

Try again later. Sometimes there are problems with the ftp server. Eventually you succeed

Do not forget the files to be described later.

Thanks for responding. I'll keep trying.....
Is it a time of day thing? Perhaps if I try and upload
in the wee hours of the morning, or the afternoon etc.?

I've tried for WEEKS now and can NEVER get through, with either the FTP applet, Filezilla or FireFTP.
I don't understand why it won't work. I see that others are contributing, so something is working.

Can someone PLEASE fix this? It is frustrating to the extreme.

Hi Buskieboy,

I use fireFTP without a problem. All I can do is show the Account settings that work for me, to check against your own.

In "create/edit Account" I have the following set.

Account Manager:-
Main:-
Account Name: Freesound (but anything will work here)
Host: www.freesound.org/ (Note this does not start with ftp.. or http.. etc)
ID:-
Login: strangely_gnarled (your user name)
Password: ********* (your normal freesound password)

Connection Type:-
Passive mode (ticked)
Security none
Port: 21

Advanced:-
All fields blank (default)

Also under Tools/options I have "When transfering files use:"- set to Automatic mode.

Other than checking that your Firewall isn't blocking the connection (by temporarily turning it off for a test) I can think of no other way to help you.

I have tried and tried since this post to upload my files and STILL find no joy.
For some reason it seems like it doesn't even connect. I NEVER see the other
end (freesound). With the Java applet, it just quits, with FireFTP it just won't
connect.
I am just SOL I guess. I have no problem with any other site in which I need
to upload; Photobucket, Facebook etc. I don't know why this site is so difficult.
Why can't they use a no fuss uploader like those sites?

Hi Buskieboy,

Change your password (in "Contol panel - Your data - profile"wink and try again. I think I've read a post somewhere in the forums whick indicated that the ftp upload pages didn't like some passwords. Since the ftp doesn't work for you with the Java applet or fireftp or filezilla, I think it must be something in your profile or your computers security settings, i.e. firewall. Remember, the FTP works flawlessly for 99.99 percent of users.

If this step helps - or it doesn't help, post it here so that anybody else with the same problem can read it.

Good luck,
Wibby.

I'm a new member and want to upload my files. I click the "FTP applet" link at left and get to the "File uploading applet" page, but there is no applet there. No pop-up either. Any suggestions? I'm running IE9 on Windows Vista.

I have the same problem as the user who made this thread. I've tried using 3 different browsers and changing my password to no avail.

Hazzah! Changing my password seemed to work! I had to do it 3 times
but it finally recognized me. All is well with the world.

Seriously, FSP should look into using a different uploader. This FTP applet
is wonky and hard to work with.
