Hello, I don't know what's going on but like every single audio I preview has high pitched beeps that sound identical to this recording. I understand they might go away upon download, but is there no way to fix this?

Imagine these beeps, but in literally every single sound on freesound.
Hey, unfortunately there's no way to fix the preview sounds. What you're hearing is artefacts introduced by transcoding to a small and low quality preview file for streaming to save bandwidth. It usually appears on sounds with low-frequency content.
When you download the file you are getting the original untouched file as it was uploaded.
If you would like to read deeper into this, there is another thread that uncovers some interesting facts about this phenomenon on Freesound...

@Headphaze, Thanks for the reply. But what I do not understand is that this only just started happening recently. I have listened to so many effects on this site and it was only till a couple days ago that I noticed almost every single effect I listened to had this issue.
Is there not anything that's in the works for this to be improved? I feel like a solely audio based website would want its audio to be pristine. As the thread mentions, perhaps its a browser issue? Should I change any settings to your knowledge in Firefox?
Sorry for the delayed reply
That's odd that it started happening suddenly out of the blue. This could be due to numerous things, but I don't have a definitive explanation for you i'm sorry, I'm not a developer. It could be that the type of sounds you are browsing generally are different, which may be more susceptible to these artefacts. All I know is that (allegedly) the browser program plays a role in this; chrome being the worst potentially.

Actually there is discussion about improving the transcode quality. The current method was developed around 10 years ago and technology and options have improved since. There's a lot of things to consider when doing something like this though, particularly bandwidth, so it's going to take some time. Thanks for understanding

There is always hope because we listen to the community, it's what drives development of the site.
With that said, I don't have any answers for you at the moment, it's something Frederic would have to comment on. But at least it is on the agenda
Headphaze,
Thanks for your attention.
hope Frederic wil take care of it because high pitch sounds do realy sound hurrible as you can hear;

That's strange. I just listened to your sound and can't hear any artefacts what so ever. I'm listening on a new Macbook pro, Google Chrome 102.0.5005.61 (arm64)
:-/
I use a Sony Vaio, windows 10 updated, Firefox 101.0.1 (64-bit) and Microsoft edge 102.0.1245.41 (Officiële build) (64-bits) and that give beeps;
Samsung S10 One UI 4.1 Android ver 12, both Chrome ver. 102.0.5005.125 and Firefox ver 101.2.0 give beeps;
Ipad ios 15.5 with safri working great.
Must be Steve Jobs with who wants to kill Android Windows Sony and Samsung
I do not understand
These loud high pitched clicks are happening here too. Chrome on windows. It’s very annoying. Everything can deal with AAC codec today, so change preview codec to AAC-HE and regenerate all previews. it’s designed for low bit rates.
Also make sure that before encoding there is at least 1 LU space above true peaks. 1,3 LU is better, they will get shifted up after compression/decompression cycle. My mastering engineer is leaving 2 dB space above peak level.
Detect ALAC files properly in UI, they are not really m4a.
I did reupload with 20 Hz high pass filter applied and clicking in preview got worse.
If you know correct filter setting, then it needs to be corrected at server side using highpass FFmpeg filter before making mp3 preview.
