Are we stuck with the cryptic number-based password...every time I need to upload files I have to go off and look at my notes to see what it is. Or am I doing something wrong?

along the top of this page, there are links ( FAQ | Search | Usergroups | Profile | Private Messages) [just below the banner]. click the profile one and about the 3rd box down there is an option to change your password.
