while i do think that it would be great getting a fresh design, a part of me feels like ive already gotten so used to this one, and i (personally) like the design of this one a bit better as it (to me) is easy to navigate, im not trying to diss on the new one, but maybe there could be some sort of legacy mode? im not sure if someone has already thought about this, but i think its a little important considering its quite a big jump from this to a whole different ui...

Hey

A legacy mode or "old" UI option has definitely been discussed before. And the verdict is that it's just not viable.

Here is another thread where Frederic the main developer of Freesound has replied on this topic:

You're already simultaneously running two versions of the UI right now and users can switch freely between those. Works fine other than the 502 errors I get on 75% of my attempts to access any given user's page. JUST SAYING

This is true (and I wish it would stay that way) but the problem comes with future development and maintenance. New features and improvements that can easily be added to the new UI might be impossible in the old UI, let alone having to write and debug two sets of code.

For the developers it would be like running a 1000 metre race with a monkey clinging tightly to one of their ankles.

Having said that, the new UI is like running a 1000 metre race with a monkey clinging to one of my legs. (Last time I tried it - not recently.)

I have been arguing for a "compact mode" where all the padding/margin is reduced/eliminated and "Headline" text and titles are shrunk so I get the same, or more, info per screen. This could be just css regardless of back engine, but perhaps it breaks presentation from desktop to tablet to phone to smart wristwatch. I don't know.

(I'm purely desktop Win10 - but through a laptop with external kboard, mouse and monitors.)
