Synthetic ambiance that suggests some sort of alien mechanism. It uses complex modulations on notch-filtered (via FFT) noise. This sound is one within a series I created years ago for a radio theater fantasy series -- it is supposed to be the main sound of a "portal" while it is running correctly. This would be mixed with other sounds for start-up and shut-down, etc. This file should be a seamless loop, if I remember correctly. The rest of the series, also beginning with the name "Portal", can be found in my "SciFi" pack. This one is useful as a stand-alone ambient background loop, however, and thus it is being placed in my "backgrounds" pack. If you like the "portal" aspect of this, be sure to check out the siblings in the "SciFi" pack of mine.

Exactly what I was looking for. Distinctive and mysterious.

Hey I used this and several other of your sounds in a space-based puzzle game I made: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.everless.gravital
Of course credited them in the description :)

I agree -- it stays out of the way but still adds interest. I just found out recently that this one was also used *somewhere* inside the 1.6 patch for World of Padman (a very artistic game with some really fun "worlds" to explore), but I didn't have the patience to figure out where. :-)
