You can rarely go wrong with granular processing.I have taken some percussion sounds from hitting pots and pans and put them through a granulator VST plug in (KTG Granulator).This sound was a cut from a larger file. The sound build up from a harmless drone to the point of clipping, just before I tweaked the controls on the plugin to tame it again to a low volume drone.
