For a few weeks every year thousands of Vaux's Swifts migrate through Portland, all staying in a large chimney at a school. Each night as many as 10000 small birds swirl around the chimney finally going down the chimney as the sun goes down in a grand tornado. It is quite a spectacle and large crowds gather to watch the display. Of course the people are quite noisy so it is difficult to hear the birds. This is a recording of the crowd as the display is winding down, at a couple of points it seems to be over and there is some applause. Once it is over people begin to leave the area, heading off into the night.
