I attached a contact mic to a large metal pylon that holds a floating dock/walkway in place. This is the sound of these two things scraping together as the water moves them about. Recorded with a Cold Gold contact mic into a Zoom H4. Unfortunately there is some noise as the result of the contact mic moving slightly, not too bad though. You can see a picture of this in the Freesound Flickr group.

Cool sound. It actually sounds almost like a synth sound.

I love this sound - rhythmic, resonant, metallic, but threatening all the time to morph into a humanoid voice.
