These samples are a variety of classic and new samples for scratching and
turntablism. I assembled these for my own personal use and decided to distribute
more widely.
Aside from hip hop phrases, scratch samples haven't changed much since
turntablism's inception. So I decided to create some originals and add some
texture to the classics. I used Reason in combination with a variety of effect
processors (vocoders, distortion, etc), supplemental snares (for impact),
compression, limiting, and warmth. Some samples are classics, others are DAW
based, others pulled from freesound.org (e.g. paper tearing). Filenames make
reference to the set of samples used and the fx patch used (if any). Doubtful
the BPM makes any difference, but I've included the reference just in case.
Samples are spaced every 1.8 seconds so the start aligns with the 12 o'clock
position at 33 1/3 for ease of use and cue efficiency (thanks to DJ Kut Vonnegut
for the tip).
Samples in general:
- Samples 1: classics (not included here for licensing reasons)
- Samples 2: select DAW effects
- Samples 3: select freesound.org paper tearing samples
I hope to add more over time.
Enjoy.
