This is actually based on the sound of celery being snapped that has been stretched out and looped (that original file is available on this website as well) to form a futuristic drone that was then pitched shifted and modulated (using Audio Damage's Vapor). The final sound is like an alien vessel taking off, hovering and then landing again. Should be easy to loop the part in the middle if you need to extend the effect.
Original audio was recorded in mono with a Rode NT5 into a Zoom H4n.

That’s a nice, unusual effect for a ufo, hope to use it in Scene 2 in Episode 26 of Ad Astral – Here on Earth: due out in March 2015. Credits will be in the shownotes.
Many, many thanks.
