This sample pack contains eleven samples of the springs on an anglepoise desk lamp. I discovered quite by accident that the springs produced a most intriguing tone so off to the studio I went to see if they could be put to good use. The source was captured with two Josephson C42s, one aimed into the bell-shaped metal lampshade and the other one about 2cm from the spring, where I was plucking it with my fingernail. Preamp was NPNG directly into Pro Tools with final edits performed in Cool Edit Pro. There is some noise because of the extremely high gain required to accurately capture this source. What was even stranger was that I discovered my lamp is tuned almost perfectly to G! :-) Recorded at Pulsworks Audio Arts by Reid Andreae.
