This 24bit 48KHz sample pack contains sixteen short samples of the drive tray on a McIntosh Labs MCD301 CD player opening and closing. We were so intrigued by the sound that we felt we had to record it. However, the only mics in our collection with enough gain to capture this extremely quiet source were the Lawson L251s with their tube gain stage. Samples 15 and 16, however, were captured with a Josephson C617 and there is a slightly higher noise floor. Preamp in all cases was a Millennia Media HV-3D and all sources were tracked straight to Pro Tools via Frontier Design Group converters. CD deck 'played' by Zach Greenhorn, recorded by Brady Leduc.
