Recorded in Feb. 2010 in a river-bottom of the Neches River (East Texas area) on a dirt road under a bright moon. Wind was blowing a bit and never died down, so the recording includes winds of about 10 mph. Recent logging had left dark clusters of pine trees standing around me, so the wind seems to move about as it swirls through the trees. Temps were in the mid-40s Fahrenheit (6-8 degrees Celsius). Plenty of frogs singing on the night I recorded this. Unsure of what the different species are. Used 2 Rode mics, a digital recorder, custom-built wind screen, and OnStage MY700 Stereo Bar. Also used the Olson stereo technique (20 cm spacing between mic-centers with 135 degree angles of the mics). Still had too many airplanes, so most frequencies from 200 Hz and lower were shelf-eq'd down about 30 dB lower instead of being arbitrarily rolled off this time. Used a bit of heavy compression on all frequencies from 200 Hz and lower as well. Used a steep Q of about 6.5 with the shelf-eq. Set all frequencies from 120 Hz and lower to mono. Left all frequencies from 120 Hz and higher at original width of 135 degrees. Checked for drop-outs in mono. Character of wind and frog chirps remains good when taken to mono. No obvious comb-filtering. Did not adjust for 1/3 octave tilt with -3 dB decrements between octaves from low frequencies to high.

Hi - these recordings are really full of dynamism yet tranquil too! I don't know how you did it. I've used them in a collage for a piece featuring African thumb piano pieces called "Fifteen Flags"
You can listen to it here if you like.
