@Klankbeeld: this is not a 100% correct. Handelskai is just plain old German - no dialect or anything. A "Kai" is a quay, and Handel means trade so you're partially correct that it means something like commercial quayside.

Do you now that ''handelskai'' is originally a Dutch word. It means: commercial quayside. It is written in the Rotterdam dialect. The Rotterdam people pronunciation is ''kai'' or ''kaai'' in normal Dutch it is ''kade''.
