this recording was made on a winter camping trip to smarts mtn (white mtns, new hampshire) in february
2006. i dangled the mic just above water level at a quickly moving
stream that was mostly frozen over with distinct sheets of ice. the
layers of ice created a sort of cavernous resonating chamber for the
rushing water, so the range of tones is very wide, including some
pretty deep bass notes and an erratic higher-pitched 'melody' line. marimba-like at times. stereo recording: sony ecm-ds70p -> minidisc.
