This recording - used with my Samson C02 stereo mics and Handy/Zoom H4N recorder, was done about a mile & a half from the Mississippi river at the base of a bluff. Interesting to note that, when you hear the cardinal calling out, you either hear it's echo from the bluff, or another cardinal answering. I don't know which, but it's nice to listen to.
This a very typical summer/insect soundscape in this area. Note how - like the river itself - the chorus of insects rises and falls, ebbs and flows.
