@Mohlar and @theredwrasse: .flac is a lossless codec most often used in UNIX systems (Linux and others). VLC is a cross-platform (Windows, Linux, other) program that can play (and convert iirc) FLAC and most other formats one is liable to encounter in the wild.

Thank you for this authentic field recording of a gamelan session. Actually, I was brought here while looking for ringtones for my new Palm pre. And the default ring tone reminded to me to gamelan orchestras, so I think I will go for this more realistic alternative... Any details about recording technique/equipm?

Great sound, but I can't use it. The file type isn't recognised by anything I have.

thanks a lot, this is great, but i'm having some trouble with the file. i'm sure it's my own ignorance, but any help with converting .flac? i thought i had a good converter, but it fails every time and this file won't play anywhere. ???

This is wonderful. I'm going to sample this in a tune of course. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it. The backdrop of people at a market is fantastic aswell, like unique, unreproducable impurities in a precious stone.
Cheers!
