A beautiful and tranquil winter day in the floodplains of a Dutch river. You would expect a lot of silence, but appearances can be deceiving. The area is teeming with geese, clearly already competing with one another for the best mate. It's a cacophony of sound. People are walking and chatting while enjoying the beautiful view. Behind me and on the other side of the river, traffic moves along the winter dikes. A woman calls out to her dog, Floris. ![]()
About the picture This panoramic image depicts the flooded floodplains of the River Meuse near Bokhoven, taken on a cold and nearly windless day in January. The water has extended over the surrounding fields, creating a broad reflective surface under a pale winter sky. The subdued sunlight enhances the tranquil atmosphere. On the opposite side of the river, residential buildings belonging to the village of Ammerzoden are visible, providing a clear reference point within the landscape. The scene illustrates typical seasonal flooding in the region and highlights the interaction between natural water dynamics and nearby rural settlements.
