De IJzeren Man, named after the steam dredger that dug it, is a recreational lake in the woods near Vught in the Dutch province of North Brabant.

Sand was extracted here for the urban elevation of the Het Zand district between the station and the city center of 's-Hertogenbosch, around 1890. Before that, around 1868, sand was excavated that was used in the construction of the Kuilenburg railway bridge (Culemborg), then the longest railway bridge in Europe at 150 meters. The sand was used to build the high railway embankments needed to cross the river Lek with this single-arch bridge. The excavation was initially done by hand. Wheelbarrows were filled with shovels, with which the sand was taken to a sand train that carried the sand away. Later a steam dredger was made, which was also suitable for excavating on the dry sand. This steam dredger ended up in Vught. The workers then went on strike, afraid that this dredger, which they had meanwhile given the nickname "The Iron Man", would take over their work and they would lose their job. The then contractor of railway bridges, Nicolaas van Haaren, managed to reassure the workers and the strike was over.

Around 1930, the lake and the land were sold and a natural swimming pool and a hotel were built on the banks. The Iron Man is still known far and wide as a tourist attraction.
