Polder Farmland Netherlands early spring.
![]()
In the distance, the farmer drives his slurry cart to his land. I made this sound recording here at a worrying temperature of 19c. Lovely weather, notwithstanding. The green woodpecker and chiffchaff. The coot in the ditch, the buzzard in the sky the robin, pheasant and crow.

About the location
To my left and in front of me lies the Hoge Maasdijk (a river-dike), which protects the 'Gelderse Waarden' (left, the polder) from high water levels of the River Maas.
The Gelderse Waarden is a peculiar name, as this polder does not belong to the province of Gelderland but to Noord-Brabant. Here’s the backstory:
Once, the Hedikhuizense Maas flowed through this area—a sharp meander of the River Maas that was cut through in 1474-1475 to facilitate shipping. This meander is located between the villages of Hedikhuizen and Haarsteeg. The area north of this meander, which is now south of the river Maas, remained part of Gelderland as the Gelderse Waarden until 1958. From that point onward, this polder became part of the province of Noord-Brabant.
