The Gentle (in dutch i.e. “Zoete” = Sweet) Mother or Gentle Lady of the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch/Den Bosch is one of the mercy statues of Mary in The Netherlands. It is a main center point of a pilgrimage. Since 1380, Mary of ‘s-Hertogenbosch/Den Bosch is being honored in St. John’s Cathedral of the town. The Holy Mother statue worship is unique because her lack of appeal is the reason for her worship.

Sla uw ogen, o liefste goedertierenste vrouw
op uw kind'ren, zij bleven u, o moeder getrouw.
Het geloof hunner vaad'ren hielden z'altoos in eer;
voor uw wonderbeeld knielden zij vertrouwvol terneer.
O Maria, o zoetste, o beminn'lijkste maagd,
O Maria, o zoete Lieve Vrouw dezer stad,
Close (10 meters) recording of the carillon of the st Jan Cathedral in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
The microphones are on the roof of the cathedral. The big, heavier and louder bells hang about 7 meters from the microphone and small bells about 13 meters. For that reason the balance in the sound recording not very well tuned. Thanks to Joost van Balkom, the carillonneur, for the hospitality in receiving me for this recording.
