Harbour story in day’s of Corona.
Canal boat "Zeearend" from shipping company Wiljo seems to be leaving the port of Heusden in the Netherlands. I don't know why because in times of corona there is no patronage.
A little later it turns out that the captain only makes a short trip in the harbor to keep the engines in condition, hoping for better times. Forwards backwards. The bow thruster left and right. That was also the conclusion of an elderly couple who, not recognizing the dead cat on a pole, was looking at what finally happened in the harbor. A little later the ship's boy is also taught to moor independently. There is now plenty of time for that. With a great sense of how the big ship behaves, the boy moors a few times. The skipper looks satisfied. An ambulance in the distance. You hear a lot lately.
Oh, poor skipper, hopefully also for you, your family and your staff, the corona crisis will soon come to an end. Last year I went on a day trip to Rotterdam with my wife. I can tell you a must.
After nineteen minutes, the marine engine switches off. The power for the current moments later. The harbor becomes quiet, although a ship still passes the river. The crew of the tour boat go for coffee.
The few ships that cross the river, it seems, are empty. They are too high on the water to be economically viable.
A buzzard explores from the air the headland that has not been visited by people for weeks. Closed off, like so many locations here. All because of the corona war that has been raging for months.
To the left is a small shipyard where a boat is launched. It is a "tjalk", an old cargo boat from the beginning of the last century. Another empty ship across the river.
An old man walks over the city wall of this old fortress with his soul under his arm. He has also been locked up for weeks and is now taking a short walk. Here, too, Corona is the time of short talks more than a human distance away.
It all seems so peaceful here, but it also seems like war. The motto is to stay indoors.
The Tjalk is in the water and the tractor that transported the ship leaves.
A grebe and a coot audibly quarrel.
In the north, cars drive over the river dike. You don't hear them because the wind is blowing from the south. This makes the film even more surrealist.
After the carillon has played I stop the sound recording. I am looking forward to coffee and it is nowhere to be found here. Everything is closed.
