Narrow street and covered river with vaults under which the echoing sound of the city is audible. A worrying male cough in this time of the virus. Nearby, in a city garden, the chickens you wouldn't expect here. Workman discus the state of something. The sound of the garbage truck comes over the river. A photographer and talking men.
Look, this is what happened; A friendly writing journalist was ‘hooked’ on my ten-hour corona sound recordings, he said. He sent an email via freesound. When I read who those two people were in preparation, I got a little bashful. Are they coming for me ??
Now he is here with his fellow photographer. The journalist asks remarkably few questions, but looks closely and writes and writes in his notebook, smiling patiently. I try to get into a conversation by offering my headset to listen and later showing the hazelnuts I find on the floor while listening, but to no avail. He says no thanks end smiles friendly again, without being annoying or uncomfortable for me and starts writing again. What does he write down? I have no clue.
I don't see the photographer, but I hear his camera shutter in the headset.
These two people seem to work just like I do my hobby; blend into the environment and do the job.
Never experienced this before and now I have to wait and see what is written and how the photos turned out. It was a strangely exciting but fun experience. Or was it a dream and were they not journalists from a national newspaper (NRC), but anthropologists from Mars, watching a strange male with a recorder and a microphone? Two observers who observe the observer.
