Behind the cathedral is a quiet street.
It is Saturday just before 8 o'clock. In the distance work is being done and men are chatting with each other. The wood pigeon and the blackbird can be heard. The baker loads his car. An early hiker passes by. High above my head people fly to warmer countries. Two cars disturb the peace here. They drive through the narrow streets with cobblestones. The bakery girl comes on her rambling old bicycle. Her working day begins. After eleven minutes when it's eight o'clock the bell sounds in the tower. It's a beautiful, low tone, as it belongs to a stately Sint Jan (Saint John) cathedral.
In an hour it will be busy with shopping people. This afternoon the terraces are full again.
