Calm and windy old down-town on Sunday 1 pm. A small cobble stone road and a high wall with trees behind. That's behind me.
In frond a 5m small city-river with houses build over and a garden with trees.
It sounds all peaceful.
The Carillon (city-bells) playing on this cold winter-day and the wind is blowing sometimes high in the naked tops of the trees.
Just a few tourists dare to walk around. Other ride on there tattling bicycles. The wind variates between 2-5bft and the temperature is just above freezing.
Most birds are gone, just a Great Tit, Jackdaw and a Sparrow audible.
The engine and propeller noise you hear after 12.30 minutes is from a boat with an electric engine that sail the half meter deep river. These people give you a roundtrip on their ships during the summer. Now the do there maintenance. It gives a nice echo when the are under the houses.
Oh yeh, the bangs is just fireworks.
The sounds of trains, blown toward me by the wind.
A woman reads from a tourism guide about this beautiful medieval city for her husband. So nice..
This part of the city first is built outside the first town-walls. Half a way the 15th century the second wall was build around de Uilenburg as this street is called.
For centuries you found the highest density of small businesses, inns, shops and livery. The pressure navigated the Vughterstroom, as this small river is called, a tributary of the Binnendieze, lay here and caused a lot of activity. Farmers parked their carts here. Through these activities, many working families settled in the Uilenburg. The opening of the 'Zuid-Willemsvaart' (canal) in 1826 and later the development of the railways made, however, that the area's function as trade began to lose. The Uilenburg became one of the most polluted areas in the city.
