Tsukutsukuboshi cicadas and birds in Hojo Garden of Chion-in temple, one of the most important sacred sites of the Jodo (Pure Land) sect of Buddhism, Kyoto, Japan.
Wow, quick response. I'm a Japanese. The scientific name of this kind of cicada is "Meimuna opalifera". But usually we call them "Tsukutsukuboshi", because they sing "tsukutsuku-boshi, tsukutsuku-boshi, tsukutsuku...". They appear only in late summer, so I guess you recorded this sound in August or September. Thank you for your great recording. Forgive my rough broken English.

Thanks for your clarification.
No, it's not a bird.
It's a Tsukutsukuboshi cicada.
