The Hindenburgschleuse, a canal lock, was build between 1919 and 1928 in Hannover / Germany. It is one of the largest locks in Europe and on the the Mittellandkanal more then 20000 ships are passing it every year.
On this recording one can hear the water being
discharged, before the gates are opened and a barge passes by. The
opening of the gate, which is pulled up, sounds pretty spooky. I was
using the Sharp MD-DR 470H minidisk player and the Soundman OKM II to record all this in May 2007.
