Recorded on the "Owl Trail" just west of Braddock Bay, in Greece, NY . While walking the trail in the very early AM with my recorder set on pause and the mic on, I heard a series of clicking and snapping sounds, and then a sharp hiss. I located a Long-eared Owl in a conifer just ahead of me with my headlamp. You can just hear the last part of the owl's hiss at the beginning of the recording. The owl was watching a Red Fox, which gives off a shrieking bark while running off. An approaching vehicle on the Lake Ontario State Parkway forced me to end the recording. Equipment used was a Sennheiser ME66/K6 combo, along with an Edirol R-09 recorder used with a Sound Professionals preamp set on max gain, with the Edirol gain set down to minimum, to reduce the excessive preamp noise of the Edirol .
