Recording of a black redstart nesting in the eave of a roof made using a parabolic dish and a single Sennheiser MKH 8020.
The recording is unedited so the gaps between song fragments are as encountered. More distant birds can be heard in the gaps. Two distinct song fragments are heard, each repeated twice. The first song fragment that is heard is the most curious, the first part of which sounds like a crackling radio.
Recording date: 6 am, 22 April, 2025.
Location: Provence, France.
Redstarts are breeding at this time of year and can be heard throughout the village every morning just before dawn at the moment.
