Zoom H4n X/Y stereo recording of rain, with lots of definition and a variety of materials on which the raindrops hit. This is the recording at the front of our house on an evening in September. Rain hitting on vegetation, sidewalk, cars, etc.

What we hear is the impact that raindrops make. The impact of a water drop on grass is very muffled compared to the impact of a raindrop on tiles or metal. We also have to take into account the fact that there are a lot of raindrops, spread out over the stereo field. All these drops paint a collective sound, which is a mixture of all the impacts on different surfaces.
