This is the sound of a MiniDV camcorder I bought off Ebay, eating a tape of historic one-of-a-kind footage. I'll now have to get the tape repaired and attempt to rescue the footage some other way. Such is life. The raw footage it destroyed belonged to my mid-2000's feature film, The Long Island Project. Cross your fingers I can rescue it!

An update on the specific cause of this sound: apparently there is a lubrication layer on the MiniDV tape that was deteriorating and this is why the camera was eating the tape.
