My front veranda roof is tin and it was raining so I stood under it holding a Rode NT4 mic in close proximity to the underside of the roof. Filtering this sound will change the perceived roof type. This is a stereo recording. The NT4 was connected to an Edirol R-09 mic-in (15 level setting).

rmbull, you should learn to use a sound editor. It will make freesound much more enjoyable. And you would be able to do both of the above you desired: make this loopable and make it longer.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is free. There are commercial products also.

Another great sound from those of us from the country who used to fall asleep listening to rain hitting the tin roofs. Wish the track was longer and didn't fade in-out so that it could be looped easier.
