Boat whistles out on the water. Deep, reverberant, slow. Several varieties. Silence in between.
These are high-quality copies of Hollywood original optical and mag effects from the 1930s through the '60s, transferred to full-track tape by USC Cinema. I have digitized them for preservation, but they have not all been restored and may have some noise.

Hi ubik83, I wish I did know more about the specific sounds. This track was a collection of bits collected by Marvin Walowitz. They’re whistles he grabbed from various productions over the years. I think they sound so distinctive because they were mostly recorded at a distance, and the whistles were powered by steam.

How do you call the very first siren's boat ?
It remains me old movies (40's, "film noir"), with boats going up and down in the mist, on the Hudson river. Do they have a specific name ?
