To my ears it really sounds like a cup breaking. Maybe you had a different break in mind, it works nicely with the image of a breaking cup. It is more of a realistic sound than cinematic sfx.
On the other hand I am no foley expert, so maybe you are right. Maybe for a better "cup breaking" sound you need a glass breaking, I don't know.
Also, there really is a sound of a cup falling on the ground and shattering in one of the three layers. The other two where used to widen the final result, left and right.

hate to "break" it to you, but that sounds nothing like break. It sounds like someone dropping broken pieces of a cup. Which, judging by your description, is exactly what you did XD
