This recording was made just before midnight on the 31st of december 2014 and continuing on the 1st of january 2015 thus documenting the transition into the new year. It was recorded on a desolate place in the harbour of Ghent: Kluizendok. We expected to hear lots of shiphorns but got none. Instead we captured this eerie soundscape of distant explosions, a far-away crowd counting down (in the beginning) and lots of startled birds. Just past the four minute mark a single boat blow his horn in the distance.
The recording was made with a Sanken CS3e connected to a Tascam DR-100. This is a mono recording. It was slightly processed in Reaper with gentle (parallel) compression and subtle equalizing (low pass above 12Khz to remove some hiss and a tiny bit of low shelf).
