MAY 17, 2019 - PART I
In this extended clip we hear the final transmission from Succotash Saltmarsh in Rhode Island by W1ZY, shortly before the disassembly of the 7 MHz saltwater vertical array. The recording was made as grayline approached the east coast of the United States at high tide, which constitutes the best conditions for the experimental antenna system used in the salt marsh. Perhaps as a result, the audio clip contains some outstanding signals from deep within the former Soviet Union, as well as the middle east. Europe, of course, is predominant as far as stations heard in the recording are concerned, with an early opening into South America extending all the way down to the southern tip of Chile--constituting a path distance in excess of 5,200 miles, greater than the distance from the east coast to Hawaii. This audio clip may prove of interest to media producers seeking clear voices bearing European, Russian and South American accents accompanied by static bursts and general radio ambience.
