Uighur Traditional music, recording 1.

A traditional song of the Uighur people recorded in the ancient Silk-Road oasis town of Turpan. Herein, an old man sings and plays a violin-type instrument. The instrument is played while seated, the base is balanced on the knee (strings outward), and spun relative to the bow to play the notes. The old man is accompanied by his son on doumbek.

Field recording made in Turpan, Xinjiang province, PRC.
