This is the second segment from a cassette tape simply marked "F101 STARTUP". This is a stereo recording of jet aircraft in flight.
This was recorded by my brother during his service in the American Air Force in the late 1960's. It was probably using a pair of Sony MTL F-96 Dynamic mics into a Panasonic stereo cassette recorder.
Although it is originally from cassette, and there is tape hiss, the levels were well chosen and the ambient qualities of the stereo are very good.
This was probably recorded at KI Sawyer AFB in upstate Michigan. My brother remarks that, due to the very cold temperatures there in winter, the engine noise was particularly striking. It begins with the sound of distant jets, and builds to a series of sonic booms.
