I recorded this using an M-Audio digital recorder using it's standard stereo "T" mic.
I walk steadily along an urban street toward a mobile steam calliope. It plays "Yankee Doodle" while nearby car stereos play. It plays "This Is God's Country". Gradually the calliope moves up a side street toward me. It plays "You Are My Sunshine". Suddenly the sweeping noise of two city street cleaners intrudes- they follow immediately behind the calliope. These three vehicles turn a corner and stop. I approach past the street sweepers and get within 20' of the calliope. It plays a hymn I do not recognize. While this is playing I realize that my recorder is overloading and switch it down. It plays "Darktown Strutter's Ball". It begins "Oh Dem Golden Slippers" and I adjust the volume again. As it begins to play "Oh Suzannah!" it slowly moves off up the block, followed by the street sweepers hissing.
