I'm looking for certain properties in ambient sound that enhance meditative attention. I took a 5 minute segment of church bells from Klankbeeld's 178136 and looped it to make a 35 minute track. Then I took Klankbeeld's 167824, kids playing, and looped it to form a second 35 minute track. I used Audacity to put an echo on this second track. (.7 sec. repeat, .3 decay factor as I recall). Then I mixed the two tracks to a single AIFF file with Audacity. I have found that it enhances and trains attention to follow small sounds within a larger matrix of sound. I used the echoes to help me follow small sounds until they got smaller and eventually decayed to zero. So, despite the general cacophony, my takeaway experience is one of a sort of silence. More about this later. This is just a preliminary experiment. For simplicity at present I use only Klankbeelts sound from Freesound.org. This simplifies attribution, and he has a very good ear for catching the many small sounds that make up a larger soundscape. I have added some further comments about possibilities for using Freesound as a resource for meditators, etc. at Forums > Off topic > Sound thoughts to Klankbeeld.

thankyou this is exactly what i am doing, looking for audio that helps my meditation, i have found school cafeterias to be good, just lots of voices that you cant make out, i just downloaded a carnival mass, there is some laughter in there 2, you cant make out what the priest is saying, so its not distracting, i have not tried it yet, i am downloading a bus journey and train journey, and trying these, and i will try this also, it looks promising, thankyou, its great i can benefit from all of your effort in putting this together, i may create something myself, something a few hours long,

So glad you did this. I was looking for a longer recording of the church bells from Klankbeeld's recording because I also found it so meditative. This is just what I was looking for.
