Setting the gate for a longer decay, I actually realized that the tail of the sound extended far longer than I thought (my previous sounds had been truncated by the gate closing too early).
This was the first complete tail I generated.

Great experiment. Having the tail end almost makes it sound like it could also be a mechanical malfunction of some kind.
