Hello all, I'm new here. I need a sound effect for a grandfather clock striking six o'clock. I have been able to find 7 o'clock on here... but I don't have any editing software or capability right now. I've got a limited deadline and I've been searching for a while now.
Also, if anyone has any recommendations for some good software for recording and editing sounds/music... I'd like to get a feel for both the software in the "FREE" range as well as some of the more moderately priced software, and what the computer requirements might be for these programs. Thank you! Hopefully someone can help me out here.
If you have the 7 o'clock, you can simply cut one of the strikes out using software such as audacity. It is free, fairly easy to use, and fairly popular. As far as other software, you may also look into Reaper which seems like a very nice audio workstation and has a nice demo and depending on usage is quite inexpensive. I happen to use Mackie Tracktion which at the moment is on sale for $49. I will warn you that development seems to be dead for that program so I can't exactly recommend it, but for whatever reason I can't find anything I like better so far.

Do you know if audacity will work for Windows 7? It says it has provisional support, but that's on the beta, and I don't know if that's going to wreck my system or something.
it's a very simple program..it won't wreck your system if you use win7.
have fun
